Beaches in Broadstairs

Botany Bay

One of the most photographed bays, Botany Bay is famous. This hidden gem offers stunning views of white cliffs and beautiful chalk stacks. When the tide is out, Botany bay is a great location for exploring the rocks and amazing cliffs.

Dumpton Gap

A quiet, sandy bay with a promenade and kiosk. It offers one of the best low-tide walking routes to Ramsgate, but always check the tide times before setting off as parts of the beach are cut off by the rising tide, and there is no way off the beach when this occurs.

Joss Bay

A surfer’s paradise, a popular 200 metre long bay, best known as Thanet’s best surfing beach along with its surf school. Surrounded by fields and a golf course, it offers a wide expanse of sand and carefree play. At high tide both sides of the beach are cut off.

Kingsgate Bay Beach

With some of the best examples of sea caves in Thanet and around 150 metres wide, the sandy bay offers calm and seclusion, accessible via a set of steep steps. While sand is exposed at high tide, the beach does get cut off by the sea at both ends.

Louisa Bay

Louisa Bay has a small but lovely sandy beach, just a short walk from Viking Bay, which is great for rock-pooling, with a cafe located on the promenade.

Stone Bay

Stone Bay is a beautiful, quieter location, best known for rock-pooling and popular with families. The promenade leads on to the town of Broadstairs, and the main beach at Viking Bay.

Viking Bay

This magnificent horseshoe-shaped bay is the main attraction in Broadstairs. This was the holiday destination of choice for Charles Dickens. The long sandy bay, cliff-top promenade, and boardwalk make this bay a timeless thing of beauty along with its surf school and rock pool there’s plenty to do at this beautiful beach.

Beaches in Margate

Margate Main Sands

This timeless beach with children’s rides and amusement arcades caters for families who want traditional seaside fun and entertainment. Even if the tide is in there is still plenty of beach to make sand castles. Restaurants, bars and seafood stalls are just a short walk away in the Old Town or overlooking the beach.

Minnis Bay

A long stretch of sand coupled with ample free parking and children’s outdoor play area near by make Minnis Bay the perfect beach for an afternoon in the sun. For the adventurous there is plenty of space for water sports, such as windsurfing or kite boarding and there is a sailing club close by.

Saint Mildred's Bay

On the coast of Westgate-on-Sea lies St Mildred’s Bay, a beautiful cliff lined sandy bay with promenade and tidal pool. A small amount of beach remains at high tide except on spring tides when it is completely covered. Learn about the bay’s history as a Royal Naval Air Station seaplane base.

Walpole Bay

Walpole Bay, Margate is ideal for investigating fascinating rock and tidal pools. This long bay has a sandy beach, promenade and tidal pool, where there is a small area of beach at high tide. If the tide catches you out there are on-land activity with mini golf, tennis, cafe and indoor bowls nearby.

West Bay

A completely tidal bay, West Bay provides an excellent opportunity for sandcastle building Combine this with rock pools, an ideal place for children and adults to explore. A pub and cafe/restaurant on the promenade are available nearby.

Westbrook Bay

Westbrook Bay, a designated water ski area, perfect for people who love their water sports. It is a great family beach with a sandy bay, where a small section of sand remains exposed at high tide. There is an adventure golf course ‘Strokes’ along the promenade.

Beaches in Ramsgate

Pegwell Bay

Pegwell Bay is an ideal bay for exploring, as it is home to a large stretch of sea cliffs, and is an area of great geological interest. The bay itself is considered a nature reserve of international importance as it is home to a range of seashore birds and wildlife found nowhere else in East Kent.

Ramsgate Main Sands

Ramsgate offers a popular long stretch of sandy beach situated right next to the famous Royal Harbour (the only one in the UK) and Marina. With children’s amusements, arcades and restaurants offering al fresco dining, the beach area offers something for everyone and has a real continental feel.

Western Undercliff Beach

Western Undercliff, Ramsgate, next to Ramsgate Port and town, is a sandy beach with a small tidal paddling pool, backed by high chalk cliffs. The lower half of the beach is rocky with a chalk reef that extends towards Pegwell Bay.
